It’s raining girl groups!

The original four members of Kara

After the exit of Kim Sung Hee in February this year, Kara is set to make their comeback with two new members plus an entirely new image this July.

According to DSP Entertainment, “The change from a 4 to five members group will see a change in their image. The two new members together with existing members, Park Gyu Ri, Han Seung Yeon and Jung Nicole will ditch their cute image of the past with something new. They will give their fans a new and refreshing feel and becoming a new shining light in the industry.”

So now they not only have to compete with YG’s planned girl group dubbed ‘Female Big Bang’, SNSD, and Wonder Girls, Jewelry but also DSP Entertainment’s tentative 7-member girl group named ‘DSP7’.

As far as Female Big Bang is concerned, four members are tentatively planned by YG – Park Bom, Gong Minji, CL, and Sandara Park.

The Wonder Girls have already released their third single entitles ‘So Hot’ – clad in an abundance of leopard print. Similarly, Jewelry have released their fifth album ‘Kitchi Island’, and a subsequent repackage with the single ‘Everybody Shh!’.

Meanwhile, SNSD, who has recently gained a lot of attention – though for all the wrong reasons, is planning to release a second album soon.

Lastly, DSP Ent. (Same company overseeing the promotion of Kara, SS501, A’ST1, Sunha) is planning to release a new 7-membered girl group a month after Kara’s comeback. Tentative members (handpicked from SS501’s music videos) include Kim Jae Kyung, Lee Joo Bin, No Eul, Jang Ji Soo, Min Ji Hye, Oh Se Mi and Jung Yoon Hye. The group’s tentative name is DSP7.

Hope it’s not another group which values quantity over quality.

Looks like all girl groups are much in demand. Let’s hope we live through the inundation…

On a different note, where is Sunha anyway? Didn’t see her much after her debut…

Ballad lovers in for a treat!

Balladeers Sung Si Kyung and Clazziquai’s Alex are all set to release their (sixth and first, respectively) latest albums this month. Sung Si Kyung’s sixth will be out by June 16 and Alex’s debut album titled ‘My Vintage Romance’ will come out by the 12th of this month.

R&B/Ballad duo J-Walk will also be coming out with their third album – ‘My Love’ by June 23rd (quite a while to go)…

Other anticipated releases this month, are Pop idol group Battle’s 3rd single ‘Step by Step’, which is due by June 12, and Kim Hyun Jung’s Vol.8 – In N Out, which is anticipated to release by June 16.

Another newly formed (so to speak, really) idol group Super Junior H (Sigh… another sub-group, are they going to exhaust all the letters of the alphabet or what?) is all set to release their first Mini album Cooking, Cooking? by June 10. I haven’t yet managed to figure out specifically the ‘theme’ behind this sub-group, eg. SuJu KRY is a ballad group, SuJu T sings Trot music, but SuJu Happy? Only time will tell I guess…

Here is a look at their album cover:

Fruity, to say the least…

Review: Digital Single – Color Pink – Musiccube Artist Album #1

NAME : Digital Single – Color Pink – Musiccube Artist Album #1

ARTIST : SeeYa + Black Pearl + Davici (I prefer spelling it this way rather than Davichi, for some reason)

LANGUAGE : Korean

GENRE : R&B/Pop/Electronica..

I was surprised to see a collaboration between three of Korea’s most powerful R&B groups. It’s just one song on this single, Blue Moon. SeeYa, one of my favourites, with songs such as Love’s Greeting and Scent of a Woman, and Davici with hits like Sad Promise (currently my obsession) as well as Black Pearl, whose ‘Finally… It’s You’ I immensely enjoyed… let’s just say my hopes were pretty high… until of course I heard it, and it sounded too much like a regurgitated version of Brown Eyed Girls’ chart-topping single ‘L.O.V.E.’ for me to be comfortable with. The vocals, as expected were great, though at times they sound too much like each other… Yet, I felt that almost nothing can compensate the originality of the track. In times like these, when electronic music is almost used as a recipe for creating ‘hits’ (what with the Brown Eyed Girls’ L.O.V.E. and Ready To Love singles, Son Dam Bi’s Bad Boy etc.), one more of these stereotypes really feels unbearable…

The only saving grace is the beautiful vocals, which I perhaps will never tire of…

I would give it a 6.5/10

And yes, I still like L.O.V.E better…

Watch the MV here:

The guy is from the Cho Young Soo + All Star MVs. Don’t recognise the girl though…
